Week Two

Tough week at work so the weekend was more for relaxing than exploring but we still had a great time.

This is what I do at work.  Yea.  I don't know what it means either.

Laundry time.

Hmmmm.  The Dutch are very open minded.

Gin and tonic anyone?

Back in the USS...sorry...Netherlands

Roxy and I are back in the NL, this time armed with 4 more Dutch phrases and slightly more disposable income.  Here's what we accomplished our first weekend:

- Watched Star Trek III in 3D Imax in the VIP Lounge.  This isn't Dutch at all, but was awesome!!! You basically pay $35 to go into a fancy room an hour before your movie where you get free food and free booze.  One of the booze choices is a slurpie machine filled with prosecco, vodka, and lime ice cream.  Yes, it is as good as it sounds, and yes I watched Star Trek a little blitzed.

- Walked the Van Gogh trail.  This is a standard 2km bike path that has bits of glow in the dark pieces in the cement so it looks like starry night.

- Travel to Den Haag, the government capital of the Netherlands. Had breakfast, walked around an antique market, looked at dogs.

- Toured the M.C. Escher art museum which used to be the house of Queen Emma before she was queen.  We were going to go to the M.C. Hammer exhibit but it was under construction for baggy pants.  Joke!

- Explored Madurodam.  Madurodam is a stadium sized park where all of Holland's most well known places, buildings, etc. are miniaturized to 1:25 scale.  You walk around this park and get to see all of Holland like you were in a helicopter.  Can you spot the red light district?

- Went to the Skybar in the middle of Den Haag.  It is a bar at the very top of a 42 story building.  The elevator ride felt like Tower or Terror at Universal because its all glass.  You get 360 degree views of the city and it's great because most building aren't over a few stories tall so you really seem high up.  Good luck figuring out which photos are miniature and which are from the Skybar.
